Austrian Infantry Officer’s Sword, Circa 1850. Gilded brass highly ornate pierced cup hilt with Austrian Coat of Arms, ribbed handle covered with sharkskin and wound with twisted wire (wire is untangled in parts). Slightly curved blade marked by the maker "JULIUS VOOS GARANTIE SOLINGEN." Black leather scabbard with gilded brass mounts, throat and drag. The drag is decorated with floral designs and bears the Royal Cypher of Franz Josef. Complete with original period knot / tassel made of metallic brocade. Ref. Bezdek’s book of German Swords and Swordmakers (p. 223).
