Ðœanufactured in England from 1853 to 1870. It was designed to fit the Enfield 1853 Pattern Musket (also known as the P53 Enfield). This example is a conversion to fit the British .577 Snider–Enfield rifle, 1860.It was used during the Crimean War, American Civil War, New Zealand Land Wars, and the Indian Mutiny. It is a typically British design in that it has a blade “shoulder” and is shallow fullered. The bayonet was attached to the musket by fitting it over the barrel muzzle and fastened into position by means of a mortise slot and locking ring.
