An unusual officer’s dirk with broad curved blade double-edged towards the point, gilt and etched over half its length on each side with foliage, depicting the bust of an armed turbaned Turk in profile and a trophy of arms above. The hilt is gilt-copper comprising recurved quillons with lobed terminals. Diamond-shaped langets cast with foliage, lion-head pommel with faceted back-piece in one, knuckle-chains. In original black leather scabbard with linear engraved gilt-copper mounts and two suspension rings, the locket with frog-stud. Provenance: Bonhmas: Antique Arms and Armour, 6 April 2006, lot 108.
