A beautiful and rare Italian flintlock blunderbuss "Scavezzo" dating from the first half of the 17th-century, Brescia. The blunderbuss stock is made of carved wood with steel mounts finely engraved with floral motifs. Marked on the barrel: "COMINAZZO." An Italian-style flintlock, magnificently decorated with engraving. Features a folding stock with a skilfully carved fish decor set with ruby cabochons eyes and metal butt engraved with an image of a warrior holding a spear and bearing the date 1644. An Italian "Scavezzo", to be carried in coach door compartments. The folding stock made carrying a concealed weapon much easier. "Blunderbuss" comes from the Germanic words "donner" (thunder) and "bücshe" (gun) and is recognized by its flared muzzle. A superbly preserved 17th-century artifact that demonstrates the skill of Italian gunsmiths.
