An Indian saddle axe or tabar with a chiseled warhead and long shaft. The crescent-shaped axehead is decorated on both sides with foliage motifs and holds three studs on the rear side. The section of the shaft near the head is covered with engravings. The shaft terminates with a steel ball. Saddle axes were carried by warriors on horseback under the saddle and were used for hand-to-hand fighting. 19th century. Provenance: Bonhams: Eastern Arms & Armour from the Richard R.
