Johannes Rosierse (Netherland, 1818 — 1901), oil on canvas painting depicting a scene of a night market stall by candlelight. Signed lower right. Housed in a giltwood and gesso frame from the original period bearing an attached metal bar inscribed with the name of the artist. Johannes Rosierse was a 19th-century artist who painted primarily genre scenes. His most important subjects were interior images with staffage. He focused on individual figures, or on groups arranged by candlelight in dark interiors. He frequently painted kitchens, presenting a synopsis of food such as fruits and vegetables en passant. Works of the artist can be seen in the museum of his hometown Dordrecht, as well as in Musee Fabre in the Southern French Montpellier.
Dimensions: 32 3/4 x 24 1/2 in., (84 x 62.5 cm.)
Condition: Good, a small hole toward the middle, Good overall, reveals signs of restoration under the black light.
