Lot 145:
This 19th-century Russian pieta icon "Mother Do Not Cry For Me" depicts Christ’s entombment. The body of the Savior is half immersed in the coffin, his head is lowered, his eyes are closed, his hands are folded crosswise. To the left of Christ is depicted the Mother of God mourning him. The icon is traditionally used in Holy Saturday liturgy and is offered for anyone who mourns the death of a loved one. Hand-painted in egg tempera on a wood board.
Dimensions: 12 1/8 x 10 1/2 in., ( 31 x 26.5 cm.)
Condition: Good with expected signs of wear.
