Signed ‘Eisman-Semenowsky’ lower left.Provenance: Doyle New York, Belle Epoque: 19th & 20th Century Decorative Arts, 09.27.2011.Note: Emile Eisman Semenowsky was a Russian, Polish and French, known for Female portrait and figure painting. Semenowsky was influenced by oriental subjects, a widespread phenomenon in French 19th-century art. His favorite subjects were depictions of women in oriental and antique-style costumes and genre scenes. His works were very popular among the Parisian bourgeoisie, and many of his works were purchased by American collectors.
