A scarce Russian foldable court sword M1855 made by the Zlatoust Arms Factory (marked on the blade) on one side and the cipher of NII on the other. The clamshell guard is decorated with an overlaid gilt-bronze Russian Imperial double-headed eagle. All furniture is of gilt-bronze.The uniqueness of this sword is in the design of its foldable scabbard. Made to an order for a traveling Russian governmental official. Probably one-of-a-kind.The fitted wooden case was made later.
Dimensions: L: 32 in., (81 cm.)
Condition: The blade is slightly pitted toward the tip, the original gilding is almost entirely preserved. The steel scabbard may have the leather changed at a certain point. The scabbard folding device (hinge) is fully functional.
