AUCTION 43: ANTIQUE ARMS AND ARMOR

Five plates of Chahar-aina armor, Qajar Period, Iran, 19th-century. The armor plates are known as "with four mirrors" made of etched steel, chiseled and inlaid with gold. The set consists of three plates for the chest and the sides of the torso, and two plates for the legs. The plates are decorated with etched medallions (cartouches) depicting scenes from Shahnameh, bordered by an epigraphic frieze in Kufic script.
The first half of the 19th century.
Breast plate: 15 x 8 5/8 in., (38 x 21 cm.)
Condition: Very good with expected signs of wear.
