AUCTION 45: ANTIQUE ARMS AND ARMOR
Lot 106:
A large Indo-Persian Dhal shield with remarkable engravings of soldiers and war-elephants on the march, with banners and weapons, all decorated with silver damascene. The center of the shield is decorated with a similarly damascened large sun or flower with a face, surrounded by four circular bosses, also damascened. The reverse of the shield is affixed with a patterned cloth cushion and handles.
L: 25 in., (63.5 cm.)
Condition: Good overall with some pitting/staining throughout. Engraving is clear through most of the pieces, with loss to the damascene in some places.
