A USSR general’s dirk ca. 1940. In excellent condition.

The long, narrow blade is nickel plated steel, while the handle is made of yellow plastic and is cylindrical, with the front and back being flattened. The pommel, like the other metal parts of the hilt, is chrome-plated steel, and has an engraved branch encircling the base. On the domed top of the pommel there is an applied image of a five-pointed star. The guard is of an ‘S’ curve type, with the button for the spring lock at its base. The scabbard is metal, black in color, with fixtures of chrome-plated steel. On the locket on the front side there is an engraved image of the State Emblem of the USSR, the tip is decorated with an engraved floral ornament.

Historical note: The dirk was worn by the general staff of tank, technical troops, communication troops, aviation and intendant services in the period 1940-1945. It was introduced for wearing on December 30, 1940.
