A circa 1816 Afghan Jezail gun with a miquelet flint lock. The lock was produced by the East India Company as indicated by their lion rampant maker’s stamped on the lock plate. Also on the lock plate is a short inscription in Arabic, and a small stamp that may be a proofing mark. The stock is in good condition overall, with only a minor crack near the barrel band closest to the muzzle and a small chip on the left side close to the breech. The stock has been decoratively carved with geometric patterns and floral shapes from the butt to the sling mount. The lock mechanism is rusty but otherwise in good condition. The barrel has some staining and light pitting throughout but is overall in good condition, and the barrel bands are all intact, though the third band from the muzzle is slightly loose. The muzzle is decoratively engraved.
