Lot 302:
A Victorian era scale for detecting counterfeit ‘sovereign’ coins. The scale is primarily made of brass and has two differently sized slots in which coins could be inserted. If the scale tipped off balance after a coin was inserted it was evidence of a counterfeit or shaved coin.
L: 3 3/4 in., (9.5 cm.)
Condition: Very good. Still swivels well. Very little wear.
