An Indian Sikh school miniature painting of a Sikh Maharajah court scene.

The history of Sikh paintings goes back to the 16th century when the Suba of Lahore flourished under the Mughals. Maharana Ranjit Singh defeated the rulers of Kangra and captured the Punjab hills area. So many Pahari school artists accepted the patronage of the Sikh ruler. The areas of Punjab, Amritsar and Lahore produced many sets of paintings that had the flavor of Pahari paintings. Many painters of Alwar and Jaipur also painted on Sikh subjects.

10 1/4 x 13 1/4 in., (26 x 33.5 cm.)

Condition: The miniature is in very good condition. The paper is well-preserved. Minor stains and signs of age.
