Oil on canvas painting depicting a portrait of a bearded man, 1881. Signed in Cyrillic and dated on the lower right. Framed. The metal plaque reads: "Ilya Repin 1844 – 1930. Portrait of a man 1881."

Note: Ilya Efimovich Repin is one of the most important painters of the 19th century that has strongly influenced Russian painting and made it world famous. From 1863 to 1871 Repin studied at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. In 1872 he joins the group of artists Peredvizhniki often called The Wanderers, who documented the life of the Russian peasantry in their paintings. The portrait painting takes in the work of Repin a special and important role. The representation of a narrow or a related group of people shows his personal relationship that is characterized in its painting by loving and caring nature.

Condition: Good, the canvas shows expected signs of wear and age. There are two patches toward the bottom of the canvas on the verso.
