AUGUST 2024 SALE OF FINE ARTS & COLLECTIBLES
Лот 40:
This type of mug is sometimes known as a ‘pass cup’ and was common in taverns in Russia during the 19th century. This example is of brass that has been hammered out, as was the custom for most Russian brass and copperware of the time. The three curved handles are held to the vessel by brass rivets. The underside of the piece is stamped with the Imperial Russian Eagle set above the phrase ‘в Туле’ translating to ‘In Tula’, indicating manufacture in the city of Tula.
Dimensions: H: 4 1/2 in., (11.5 cm.); D: 5 in., (12.5 cm.)
Condition: Good condition overall, with a nice patina and very minor oxidization in some places. All pieces are tight.
