Miniature Russian egg pendant made of cut Iris glass with blue, pink and green inclusions with 84 silver mount on top. Marked on the fitting ring with an 84 Imperial Russian silver standard. Late 19th or early 20th century.
Note: Iris glass was a completely new type of artificial gemstone with exceptional brilliance and subtle iridescence in three colors. The production of such glass was very labor-intensive and expensive. Multi-colored threads were added to transparent glass; as a result of chemical processes, thin layers of metal oxides appeared in the glass mass, coloring the glass in different colors.
