AUCTION 50: ANTIQUE MILITARIA, FALL 2024
Lot 71:
A traditional German beer stein, from the early 20th century, within a wonderfully intricate design throughout, especially on the pewter lid, and the scenery on the body. Named to a reservist Paulus. Top is slightly loose. A German soldier and his wife are depicted on the bottom lithophane scene. These steins were popular souvenirs for German soldiers during their service and often became collectible items. This particular example is rarer than commonly found beer steins because of the translucent bottom.
H: 10 1/2 in., (26.2 cm.)
