Lot 176:
A letter sent to a certain Captain Moses Goodman Jr. during the war of 1812 by his wife Prudence concerning matters back home and her concerns for his safety. This text is a wonderful window into what life looked like in the early decades of the United States. This letter retains its postal marks from Hartford, Connecticut and is addressed to New London, Connecticut, the site of an important fortress at which Goodman’s regiment was stationed.
