AUCTION 50: ANTIQUE MILITARIA, FALL 2024
Lot 237:
A hunting dagger or sidearm of 18th century Europe, likely of Italian origin. The blade has been etched with text and decoration on both sides of the blade, though it is too obscured now to make out the meaning easily. The blade has an interesting hilt, with one upturned rear quillon and the other being downturned into a circle which acts as a finger ring, allowing the dagger to be held in the manner of a rapier if desired. The handle is of horn with a slight forward curve at the bottom and simple carved lines along its length.
Europe, probably Italy, 18th Century.
L: 24 in., (61 cm.)
Condition: Good overall with some light pitting and staining across metal fixtures. The etched text on the side of the blade is heavily worn. The grip has some chips and holes in places.
