Lot 357:
A French-style cavalry saber with a Damascus steel blade bearing the inscription ‘Manufacture de Solingen’, indicating creation in the famous German blade-smithing city of Solingen. The blade has the typical gentle curve and wide fullers and terminates in a drop point tip. The guard is the typical three-bar design. The scabbard and its fittings are entirely made of steel.
France, 19th Century.
L: 41 in. (104.14 cm.);
Condition: Very good condition. The blade has a few small notches on the edge. Very little evidence of oxidization, with only some pitting near the guard and some rust on the scabbard. Brass hilt and wood grip have minor wear consistent with use and age.
