Комиссия аукционного дома:

A large and imposing war hammer of Central European origin, probably Hungarian or Austrian, likely crafted at the very beginning of the 17th century. Slightly rounded, almost pillow-shaped head and a long, four-sided beak, both of steel and decorated in various places with incised geometric patterns. The haft is of wood and is studded throughout with many round-headed nails in various patterns, which also serve the purpose of reinforcing the haft. The head and shaft are attached via two long langets which are incised and shaped with simple decoration. The cylindrical steel grip is decorated with embossed checkering, each diamond shape being slightly rounded. At the pommel is a hole for attaching a lanyard.

Central Europe, Early 17th Century.

L: 29 1/2 in., (74.9 cm.); Head Length: 12 in., (30.5 cm.)

Condition: Extremely good for age, with only minor pitting throughout. The wooden shaft has some long cracks along the right-hand side. All parts appear to be original, with no apparent signs of restoration.
