AUCTION 50: ANTIQUE MILITARIA, FALL 2024
Lot 428:
A 19th-century flintlock pistol of Ottoman design with a long slender smooth barrel and various decorative elements. The handle is set in iron mounts bearing a rounded pommel with a pommel cap that depicts the image of a face. The wood stock is carved and inlaid with silver with a leafy vine motif. The intricate filigree design is featured on the breech and near the flash pan. Various other decorative elements are featured throughout the lock plate, trigger guard, frizzen, and hammer. The depiction of a mythical creature (possibly a dragon) shows potential influence from oriental cultures. Ramrod is made of a different material from the rest of the piece, perhaps a replacement for the original.

L: 18 in., (46 cm.)
