AUCTION 50: ANTIQUE MILITARIA, FALL 2024
Lot 440:
A very well-preserved and nicely made example of a Circassian-style flintlock pistol of the early to mid 19th century. This type of pistol is characterized by its slender and minimalist stock, as well as its more squared hammers, being more similar to Ottoman-style miquelet locks than Western European ones. This example has a twisted-steel barrel engraved with foliate motifs at the breech and a black leather-wrapped stock with a spherical wooden pommel.
Bore diameter: 12 mm.
Circassia, 19th Century.
L: 17 in., (43.2 cm.)
Condition: Very good overall, especially considering age. Very little wear to leather. All parts tight except for a very slight wiggle in the pommel. Some minor surface rust on lock mechanism. Barrel has been stuffed with fiber to keep it rust free.
