Marie Laurencin, a pencil on paper portrait of a young woman with two pink bows. Signed ‘Marie Laurencin’ lower left. Matted, housed in a wooden frame. Has a Sotheby’s Auction label on the verso.
Marie Laurencin (1883-1956) was a French painter, an important figure of the Parisian avant-garde. At the beginning of her career Laurencin studied porcelain painting in Sevres. She then continued her art education at the Academie Humbert, where she changed her focus to oil painting. Lurencin’s works are in collections of many museums around the world, including the Musée Marie Laurencin in Nagano, Japan, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, and the Tate Gallery in London.
