Комиссия аукционного дома:

Ethiopian Ge’ez manuscript on parchment, probably dating to the beginning of the 19th century. It is comprised of 3 sections of paper sewn together and is decorated with drawings and painted figures throughout. The text is written in black and red ink. The illustrations show a square faced entity, a man in a long, decorated robe, and many large and small eyes throughout. The images were believed to purge or ward off demons from individuals or households. These scrolls would typically be custom made to the height of the individual who had commissioned the piece, or longer if meant for a home. This example appears to have been made for an individual of around 6 feet in height. Similar examples can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum and the British Library.

Amhara or Tigray, Ethiopia — ca. Early 19th Century
