”Histoires Françoises, Galantes et Comiques’ or ‘French Stories, Gallant and Comedic’ is a book by French author, lawyer, and playwright, Adrien-Thomas Perdou de Subligny which was first published under the title ‘La Fausse Clélie ou Histoire françoise galante et comique’ in 1671. This edition was published in 1710 by Estienne Roger of Amsterdam, an escaped French Huguenot who became an important publisher of histories and classical music in the Netherlands.

The text is a satire of the stories of Mademoiselle de Scudéry, subverting the normally high-minded and well-mannered characters of her upper-class novels by making them crass and rude and highlighting their less honorable qualities. Throughout the book are six engravings attributed to Romeyn de Hooghe featuring various scenes from the stories. The inside of the front cover has been affixed with a detailed armorial ex libris book plate and the title page has been inscribed with an old signature. The second to last blank leaf has been written on in pencil and later scribbled over in ink.
