ОСЕННИЙ НЬЮ-ЙОРКСКИЙ АУКЦИОН ИСКУССТВА
Лот 128:
A Japanese hand-carved wooden sculpture of an Oni, a type of demon or ogrelike figure in Japanese folklore thought to live in remote places and act as a sort of trickster figure, sometimes menacing people and sometimes providing great fortune. The piece is set atop a base of gnarled wood which adds to the monstrous effect.
Japan, 19th century, Meiji period (1868–1912).
