This exceptional Chinese wooden horse carved in the early 20th century. It is inspired by the early Tang dynasty horses that were excavated from the tombs of emperors and soldiers. In the 1920’s the first archaeological digs began to take place and China and the coverage of the treasures that were found was worldwide. This example is a Chinese horse made for the Western countries for export. The quality of the carving and detail is superb.
