The shashka was made in Ottoman Turkey for an officer of the special military formation Hamidiye (cavalry) of the Turkish Sultan Abdul-Hamid II. The soldiers where mainly of the Caucasian origin and noble Turks. All soldiers wore Caucasian type attire and Caucasian weapons (following the example of the Russian Imperial convoy of the Tsar). The blade of this shashka was made in Turkey. It is richly decorated with ornaments and Arabic inscriptions on both sides. The silver mounts of the scabbard feature the Sultan Tugra as well as the inscription in Arabic which reads: "Kuli-Khan".
