A scarce Caucasian kindjal made by a Dagestan swordsmith. Steel rivets on the handle and scabbard mounts are decorated with gold inlay. The blade is also decorated with gold inlay. What makes this piece particularly valuable is that the blade was made by a famous blade maker "Bazalay". To have a dagger with a blade made by the old Basalay was a dream of every mountaineer and Cossack. Even wealthy officers were not always able to order and purchase it, as such blades were rarely available for sale. Ca. the first half of the 19th century.
