Stated on the lower left just below the image is "J.L.E. Meissonier, Pinx.;" at lower right is "Gravure, Gebbie & Co." and below the title in the center, "1807" is "Gebbie & Co." Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier (21 February 1815 – 31 January 1891) was a French Classicist painter and sculptor famous for his depictions of Napoleon, his armies and military themes. This painting was dedicated to the battle between the French army under the command of Napoleon and the Russian army under the command of General L. L. Bennigsen, which occurred on June 2 (14), 1807 near Friedland. The print was produced in the 1880s by Gebbie & Co. of Philadelphia.
