The bronze depicts a figure of a young boy mounted on a black marble base pulling back a slingshot, the bronze signed: Sir William, Bronze Garanti, Paris, Antique Gallery. Footnote: Sir William Reid Dick specialized in human and animal figures and was also commissioned to create various portraits. In the ‘Slingboy’ he has channeled the realism he employed for his many lifelike portraits into an idealized expression of male youth. The piece was described by Granville Fell as a ‘well-balanced, tense figure, precise in modeling’. (Granville Fell, pl. 2).
