An early Luftwaffe 4-pocket Paratrooper tunic of the "Fallschirm-Jäger Rgt. 1" with cuff title on right arm. The tunic has 1938 issue markings and 7./Fallschirm-Jäger Rgt.1 plus second stamp II. Fallschirm-Jäger Rgt.1. The rank of "Obergefreiter" (Private 1st Class), a cloth Paratrooper Badge below the left breast pocket, loop for Iron Cross 1st Class, and a ribbon for Iron Cross 2nd class. Excellent condition as a walking-out Tunic. Footnote: The 1st Parachute Division, aka the Fallschrim-Jäger-Division Reg. 1. was the elite German military parachute landing division. This division was formed in October 1938 under the command of Major-General Kurt Student. The Fallschrim-Jäger-Division aided the advance of the German troops during the invasion of Belgium and the Netherlands in order to capture the key bridges and the fortress of Eben Emael and desperately failed the mission. They also took heavy losses at the Battle of Crete. Despite this, they were helpful in aiding the fight against the Allied invasion of Sicily. The division also contributed to the defense against the advance of the British Eight Army. In February to May 1944, the 1st Parachute Division took part in the Battle of Monte Cassino, and in late May and June, it fought against the Allied Operation Diadem later retreating to the north of Rome. The men of this division were along with the German surrender in Italy, May 2nd, 1945.
