A fine 17th-century German crossbow with fruitwood stock finely and elaborately inlaid throughout its length, steel bow retained by cords against a wooden block, a string of twisted cord, brass bolt-clip, steel nut, trigger-guard indented for the fingers and set trigger. Complete with original cranequin for setting the crossbow. Overall in good condition, the steel part of the bow painted black has scratches on the surface. Wooden stock shows a few small cracks toward the end and around bone inlays. The string is tight but has some loose fibers. Bone inlays are in good shape. Two round bone inserts on the left and right-hand side of the crossbow may be a replacement or differ in color (it looks lighter than the rest of the pieces). Original key.
Dimensions: L: 28 1/4 in., (72 cm.)
