A British War Medal, instituted by King George V on 26 July 1919. Serves as an award to participants in the First World War. Later this medal was also awarded to members of the British Expeditionary Force in Russia. On the obverse, there is a relief portrait of King George V with a circular inscription in Latin “GEORGIVS V BRITT OMN REX ET IND IMP”. On the reverse: George is depicted on a horse, oppressing the shield of the defeated union. Above — the rising sun, below the skull and bones. On the sides, the dates are "1914" and "1918".
The medal band has the following inscription: 1645 CPL W BEATON R.A.M.C
