A period of Maximilian II, King of Bavaria (1848 – 1864). Gild hilt with lion head pommel, mother of pearl grip scales with a gilt plaque bearing the cipher of Maximilian, clamshell-shaped guard depicting a lion, straight diamond-cut blade decorated with chiseling, gilt, and bluing (bluing is mostly worn out), the blade is marked by Samuel Hoppe, Solingen, a beehive stamped mark. Stitched leather scabbard with gilt brass mount. Ca. 1850
