19th-century miniature portrait of Alexander I, Tsar of Russia (1777-1825). Half-length, head slightly turned to the left, wearing a uniform. Signed at the center-right: "H. Benner pinx.". Set in a gilt bronze frame with a silk lining. The painting is surmounted by an Imperial crown. Provenance: Sotheby’s New York, 10/29/2013, Important English and Continental Silver, Vertu, and Russian Works of Art, Lot 79.
