Mixed media on board sketch of the Faun’s costume for Vaslav Nijinsky for the ballet Afternoon of a Faun – the cover of the program for the Seventh Season of the Russian Ballet. Signed: BAKST at lower right. Presented in a vintage gilt wooden frame. Lev (Leon) Samoilovich Bakst (1866 – 1924) – Belarusian and Russian artist, set designer, illustrator, who worked mainly in St. Petersburg and Paris. Member of the association Mir Iskusstva, theatrical and artistic projects of S. P. Diaghilev, one of the trendsetters of the European fashion for exoticism and orientalism at the beginning of the 20th-century.
