Two renaissance revival porcelain miniature painting plaques of Raphael (1483-1520) and Girolamo Savonarola (1452- 1498). Raphael was a leading figure of Italian Renaissance classism, best known for his "Madonnas", including the Sistine Madonnas, and for his large figure compositions in the Palace of the Vatican in Rome. Girolamo Savonarola was an Italian Dominican friar from Ferrara and preacher active in Renaissance Florence. He was known for his prophecies of civic glory, the destruction of secular art and culture, and his calls for Christian renewal. He had a considerable effect on Renaissance Art in Florence in late quattrocento and early Cinquecento, much of which he condemned as profane. He is also well known for violently criticizing the Medici family. Following the overthrow of the Medici family rule in 1494, Savonarola used his authority to establish a democratic republic in the city.
