The gift was donated by Sandra Genter to the Jerome Robbins Dance Division possibly in 2013. The lithograph depicts a scene of Romeo and Juliet from the ballet ‘Romeo and Juliet" ( Op. 64), which was composed by Sergei Prokofiev based on William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet. First composed in 1935, it was substantially revised for its Soviet premiere in early 1940. The ballet was performed at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, however, due to the strict soviet atmosphere and certain concerns, the premiere of the ballet was at the Mahen Theatre, Brno (then in Czechoslovakia, now in the Czech Republic), in 1938.
