A hand-painted Indian shield (dhal), Rajasthan, 19th century. Made of leather, of convex circular shape, provided with a raised border. The entire surface is painted in polychrome with Tigers that hunt antelope or fight mythical animals. The center is set with four domed bosses with high relief faces and perforated borders, affixed on the reverse by four ring bolts.
Dimensions: D:18 in., (45.7 cm.)
Condition: Very good, some bends and missing paint on the rim, some missing paint across the shield
