Believed to be an Italian Naval Briquet sword worn by tax collectors in ports and when at sea (around 1830-1860). Brass hilt with D-shaped knuckle guard with added cup-style knuckle guard firmly attached with ten rivets struck "MA" on the guard, slightly curved blade marked "4" and "MA", stitched leather scabbard with brass fittings.
