A Russian Imperial Order of Saint George, 4th class. The breast badge features a white enameled gilt bronze cross with a central medallion bearing the image of Saint George on horseback slaying the dragon. The reverse bears a hand-painted Cyrillic monogram of SG for Saint George. Late 19th – early 20th century. Footnote: The Order of Saint George was originally established on 26 November 1769 as the highest military decoration of the Russian Empire for commissioned officers and generals by Empress Catherine the Great.
