A Russian Imperial gold and red enameled Order of Saint Anna, 2nd class with swords. The obverse features a painted icon of Saint Anna at the center, done in enamels with a gold border, on crossed swords with sprays sprouting from the blades on both sides of a Maltese Cross. The reverse bears a figurative painted design in blue surmounted by a red crown on white enamel. Stamped with the makers mark AP for Aleksandr Romanov. Early 20th century. Hallmarked on the loop with 56, kokoshnik mark. Footnote: The Imperial Order of Saint Anna was a Holstein ducal and then Russian imperial order of chivalry. It was established by Karl Friedrich, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp, on 14 February 1735, in honor of his wife Anna Petrovna, daughter of Peter the Great of Russia.
