ANTIQUE ARMS, ARMOR AND MILITARY DECORATIONS
Lot 339:
A 19th-century sword with a slightly curved blade and Hindu basket hilt. The basket hilt of a type found on earlier 17th century swords continued into the 18th century, with khanda/patissa style cross guard, the guard plate, and pommel, with added broad knuckle bow at the front. Also with a pommel stalk curving forwards and with a small knob end. Small punched holes in the guard plate for the addition of a liner (now absent). The curved blade of flat wedge-section, single-edged, with inlay brass motif/script (perhaps a maker’s mark). Blade length is 29 1/2 in., 75 cm.
