Jozef Ryszkiewicz (Polish, 1856–1925), oil on canvas painting depicting Russian Cossack riders with horses in the hilly landscape. Signed by the artist lower left, dated 1891, Warsaw. Framed. Jozef Ryszkiewicz studied painting at the Warsaw Drawing Class under Wojciech Gerson and Cyprian Lachnicki and continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg. His painting Death of a Marquetteettee was awarded a bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900. He was mainly involved in landscape and battle painting, genre and historical scenes.
Dimensions: 37 in. x 18 1/2 in., (94 x 47 cm.)
Condition: Very good, no visible signs of restoration.
