Based on the black basalt vase from 1770, this version of the Panther Vase is a fruitful result of the partnership between Josiah Wedgwood and Thomas Bentley. Many of the antique pieces that inspired Wedgwood and Bentley were used to serve wine, which is why this vase of the classical amphora form, applied with a band of gilt-laurel leaves above the engine-turned fluted bodies, with a mythical beast and satyr mask, handles, on spreading circular foot and round base.
Dimensions: H: 15 1/2 in., (39.5 cm.)
Condition: Very good, no cracks or chips.
