An extremely fine large bronze sculpture "The Florentine Singer" by Paul Dubois, (French, 1829 – 1905). The sculpture is finely detailed and depicts a refined young man in a Renaissance outfit singing to the accompaniment of a mandolin. The surface is covered with a nice brown patina. Signed and dated on the round base: P.Dubois, 1865, also features an F. Barbedienne Foundry mark and a Reduction Mecanique mark. Paul Dubois was born in 1829 in the north of France. He studied law, then attended the school of fine arts and worked at the studio of Armand Toussaint. After his studies, he traveled to Rome where he was inspired by the imposing sculptures of the Renaissance masters. His sculptures were very popular throughout Europe and were reproduced in large quantities. To honor his creative talent Dubois was awarded several distinctions.

Condition: Very good overall, nice bronze patina throughout.
